A rare wonder of nature - This pink Vanda orchid grows high in the trees of the forest. With its long roots, it sits in trees and their roots feed on morning dew and rain.
Vanda is sold both as a flower and a blooming plant. The Vanda flowers are long lasting: you can enjoy weeks of flowering plants and cut branches. Because of the slow growth the Vanda very robust and the plant could be much better at less favorable conditions than other houseplants.
Storing - Vanda's do really well at normal room temperatures between 18- 27°. At a proper temperature and lots of light, the plant will grow actively throughout the year.
Light - To bloom, a Vanda orchid needs plenty of light. Avoid direct sunlight in summer. Too little light will cause the leaves to darken and the plant will not bloom anymore. Extra light in the flowering stage creates a beautiful bright flower color.
After ten days, the flowers are grown to their full size.
Watering - Fill a large bucket with water during sunny/warm periods twice per week. In cloudy/cool periods do this only once a week. Place all the roots in the water and they will suck the water like a sponge. After about thirty minutes when no more air bubbles appear, the roots are saturated, then remove. The plant now has several days stored enough water in the roots.
Flowers - After a few months, depending on the amount of light present, there will appear a new branch. Put the plant for several weeks in a cool place to encourage flowering. This place should never fall below 15°.
