It has been said that the VOC (Dutch East India Company) imported Chinese porcelain in these early days, as they were held in very high regard and were often reserved for the very wealthy. When the supply of these illustrated beauties to Europe was paused, the Dutch were inspired to create their own version of the famous 'Blue and White' and highly decorated pieces emerged depicting the Dutch lifestyle. Fishing boats, windmills and landscapes became popular scenes and are still thriving today. We know this as Delftware.
